Why people like it
Safi is a working city few tourists reach, which is exactly its charm. The Potters' Hill still fires its wood kilns above the medina; below, the Dar el Bahar fortress stands in the surf and the unfinished Portuguese cathedral hides in a side street. The port lands more sardines than any other in Morocco. Honest, uncrowded, cheap.
What you can do
- Climb the Colline des Potiers: workshops, kilns, and the famous blue-and-white ceramics at maker prices.
- Visit Dar el Bahar (Château de la Mer) and the Kechla fortress.
- Walk the medina to the Portuguese cathedral.
- Eat sardines where they land.
- Swim or watch surfers at Lalla Fatna beach north of town.
Good to know
A long but easy day on a good road. Pottery is fragile: we have room in the car.
How it works
- You choose the date, the departure time and the return time. Nothing is fixed in advance.
- Your driver takes you there, waits for you on site and brings you back. You visit at your own pace, no guide, no group.
- We reply with one price for the car, whatever the number of passengers it carries. You pay the driver on the day.
