Why people like it
Oualidia is where Casablanca families go for the weekend: a calm lagoon protected from the Atlantic by a rocky bar, oyster farms along the shore, and a string of fish restaurants on the beach. After the wind of Essaouira, the stillness is the point.
What you can do
- Eat oysters and grilled fish on the lagoon.
- Kayak or paddle-board on flat water; swim from the beach.
- Spot flamingos and other birds in the lagoon (autumn to spring).
- Walk to the ruined royal pavilion and the old kasbah for the view.
- Stop in Safi on the way up or back.
Good to know
The longest of our northern trips; leave early and come back for dinner. Oysters all year.
